9/11 Memorial at Dolan’s Lake Park

The 9/11 Memorial at Dolan’s Lake Park was erected from steel from the World Trade Center. It features two steel towers, an American flag and bronze plaque in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The project was the brainchild of Joe Jove, a retired lieutenant from the New York City Fire Department and a Hunter Mountain Hall of Fame Member. “I have been thinking about building this memorial for the past ten years,” Jove said in 2011. “We’ve had this steel for a few years but we couldn’t decide where we were going to construct it. I decided this year would be a good year to do this since it’s the 10-year anniversary.”

David Slutzky, one of the former owners of Hunter Mountain, cut and built the 14-foot-high steel structure. Jove, who worked with the FDNY for 30 years and retired just before September 11, 2001, designed the plaque that sits at the base of the structure. The plaque reads: “This monument of WTC steel is dedicated to all who were lost on 9/11/01 and to our heroes who made the supreme sacrifice.”
